Day 3: Peoria to Sedona, AZ (163 miles)

After a much-needed great night of sleep, we got in our first real twisty ride today! But before we hit the twisties, lunch at the Onery Hog in Wickenburg, AZ. This was one of those local BBQ joints where the owner (who’s also the cook!) will sit down at a table and chat up his customers. They’ve also got a lot of quirky art and tchotchkes on the wall.

I got the cholla bowl: cornbread smothered with beans, cheese, and pulled pork. It was as amazing as it sounds, and completely filling…

… but I couldn’t say no to peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert! Well worth the overfullness.

We then set off along Arizona 89, one of the roads that had been recommended by my taxi driver, Chuck. He definitely didn’t oversell it! The twists, turns, and scenic overlooks were simply stunning, as we passed through Prescott, Jerome, and Clarkdale.

We got into Oak Creek, just outside of Sedona, well before dark. We checked into our hotel and capped the day off with a gelato at the Italian restaurant next door.
